2. Boutique and premium customers: The shopping experience matters
In the premium segment, the shopping bag often becomes part of the product experience. Especially in boutiques, concept stores, jewelry stores, and high-end cosmetics and fashion boutiques, brand impact is created through the details:
- Feel
- Material thickness
- Finish
- Grip quality
- Print quality
- Noise when opening
Customers automatically associate high-quality packaging with higher-quality products. A thin or flimsy bag can therefore undermine the overall impression of what is actually a high-quality purchase.
Matte finishes, high-quality cotton or cord handles, and heavyweight paper with a pleasant feel are particularly effective in the premium segment. Subdued colors and subtle hot foil stamping also often convey a higher-quality impression than over-the-top designs. Many premium and luxury brands deliberately opt for minimalist designs with plenty of white space, clean lines, and few design elements.
This is because in the luxury segment, perceived value often stems not from flashiness, but from a sense of calm and consistency in the brand’s presentation. It is not the most eye-catching bag that sticks in the memory, but often the one that feels particularly high-quality and naturally aligns with the brand.
